Nevada City officials made initial plans this week to begin spending new sales tax funds on road and sidewalk repair.
More than 80 percent of city voters passed the half-cent sales tax in November.
The city is expected to ask for bids for pavement and sidewalk improvements beginning next month, said City Manager Mark Miller. First-year work could start about June 15 and be completed in August while school is out for the summer, Miller said.
The work and estimated costs include:
¥ Alexander Street from Main to Coyote streets, $45,000.
¥ American Hill Road from Bennett Street to the city limits, $72,000.
¥ B Street from Nevada to Uren streets, $30,000.
¥ Clark Street from Pine to Sacramento streets, $27,000.
¥ Clay Street from Turpentine Drive to Four Corners, $100,000.
¥ Clay Street from Turpentine Drive to Prospect Street, $130,000.
¥ Cottage Street from Main to Broad streets, $67,500.
¥ Coyote Street from Dean Alley to Highway 49, $77,800.
¥ Finley Street from West Broad to Spring streets, $2,400.
¥ Hoffman Street from Nevada to Uren streets, $10,000.
¥ Lindley Avenue from Brock Road to the end, $21,200.
¥ Lower Grass Valley Road from Gold Flat Road to the end, $177,600.
¥ Lower Jordan Street from Zion Street to the sewer plant, $118,400.
¥ Upper East Broad Street from Main Street to Highway 49, $66,600.
¥ Upper Searls Avenue from Bost Avenue to Gold Flat Road, $150,000.
¥ Willow Valley Road from Nevada Street to city limits, $45,000.
An estimated $1 million in street improvements for fiscal year 2007-08 have been outlined by City Engineer William Falconi.
If the low bid comes in higher than that, Miller said the city would scale back its work plan.
Collection of the sales tax money began April 1 with a sunset in 16 years, but city officials said they hope to finish the work in seven years. The tax is projected to bring in $7.2 million during its life span.
